Adding places is the foundation of planning a trip in Trovvana. Every restaurant, museum, park, hotel, or landmark you want to visit becomes a place on your map. There are several ways to add places to your trip, and all are designed to be fast so you can build out your itinerary without friction.
Method 1: Search for a place
The fastest way to add a place is to search for it by name. Click the Add Place button in the sidebar, then type the name of a place into the search field. Trovvana will suggest matching places as you type. Click a result to fill in the name and location automatically.
This works for any type of place — restaurants, hotels, landmarks, parks, train stations — anywhere that appears on a map. The search is location-aware, so results near your current map view appear first.
Method 2: Click the map to drop a pin
You can also click directly on the interactive map. When you click any location on the map, Trovvana drops a pin at that spot and opens the place form. From there you can set the name, choose a category, assign it to a day, and fill in any additional details like cost or duration.
This method works well when you are browsing the map and spot somewhere interesting, or when you already know roughly where a place is and want to mark it quickly.
Method 3: Paste a Google Maps URL
If you have already found a place on Google Maps, you can paste its URL directly into Trovvana. Copy the link from Google Maps using the share button or from the browser address bar, then paste it into the Location field when adding a new place. Trovvana will automatically extract the location coordinates and, where possible, fill in the place name and other details for you.
This is especially useful when you are working from a list of bookmarked places in Google Maps. Trovvana supports both short share links (like maps.app.goo.gl/...) and full Google Maps URLs.
Using the sidebar Add Place button
Click the Add Place button at the top of the places list in the sidebar. This opens the place form, where you can search for a place, paste a Google Maps URL, or click the map to set a location manually.
Filling in place details
Whichever method you use to add a place, you will see a form with the following key fields:
- Name — the display name for the place on your map and in the sidebar
- Category — choose from Home, Accommodation, Food & Drink, Activity, Transport, or Other to color-code the place on your map
- Day — assign the place to a specific day of your trip so it appears in your daily itinerary
- Visit order — set the sequence in which you plan to visit places within a day
- Notes — add any personal reminders, tips, or details you want to remember
You can always edit these fields later by clicking on a place in the sidebar or tapping its marker on the map.
Tips for adding places efficiently
- Search first, paste if needed. For most places, typing the name into the search field is the quickest option. Use Google Maps URL pasting when you have a curated list of links you want to import.
- Assign days later. If you are in the early research phase, you can add places without assigning them to a day. Unassigned places still appear on the map so you can see the overall geography of your trip.
- Use categories consistently. Categorizing places as you add them keeps your map organized from the start and makes it easier to filter and visualize your itinerary later.
Adding places is just the first step. Once your places are on the map, you can reorder them, view route lines between them, and export your full itinerary as a PDF.
